SF Festival of Sail & Stanford Jazz

San Francisco Festival of SailSan Francisco Bay came alive over the weekend with ghosts of ships from yesteryear, coughing puffs of smoke simulating cannon fire and doing mock battle. The Festival of Sail, which wrapped up on Sunday, saw the Embarcadero overflowing with tourists and residents eager to enjoy the festivities and get a good look at the docked ships and the ones duking it out in the Bay. More pictures of the ships and other festivities here. San Francisco Chronicle has a neat description and a video of the opening of the festival. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter, Eagle, led the Festival of Sail Parade of ships through the Golden Gate and San Francisco Bay on the first day of the weeklong celebration. 35 tall ships joined the Eagle as it sailed from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge, accompanied by hundreds of smaller water craft. - Tall ships come to town, San Francisco Chronicle

San Francisco vacations are not just about the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, though. There’s lots more things to do in San Francisco, with events and concerts and shows. One of these happens to be the Stanford Jazz Festival, which includes two weeks of Jazz camp and one week of Jazz residency.

The Jazz Residency offers a week-long intensive interaction with jazz legends, top professionals, gifted educators, and motivated students from around the world. SJW’s Jazz Residency curriculum includes master classes, small ensemble playing, and performance opportunities, as well as theory, musicianship, arranging, Afro-Latin jazz and jazz history instruction.

The Jazz Residency is slated for the week of August 3-8, 2008. More details here.
