Clowning Around In Phoenix

Clown Day at Rawhide, Phoenix, AZThinking about Phoenix vacations? If you aren’t, stop start clowning around and pack your bags, cause its National Clown Week, and in Rawhide, its Clown Day on Saturday, August 9 2008. Its the largest Clown gathering in the Southwest, with over a 100 clowns raising cain with rip-roaring antics and face-paintings for kids and hilarious stage shows and lots of silly and goofy stuff. For the record, if you’re fond of the Wild West and looking up the things to do in Phoenix, then add Rawhide at Wild Horse Pass in Phoenix to the list. According to their own website, “Rawhide has a chuck wagon full of fun in store for you — gunfights, stunt shows, shootin’ gallery, gold panning, stagecoach rides, desert train, camel rides, pettin’ ranch, burro rides, live country music, Sundown Cookouts, a real blacksmith, and much more… Treat yourself to the finest mesquite-grilled cowboy steaks this side of the Rockies at the world-famous Rawhide Steakhouse & Golden Belle Saloon. Dine on delicious barbecue babyback pork ribs, barbecue chicken, cowboy beans, and Rawhide’s signature fresh-baked apple pie with cinnamon-swirl ice cream.”

BBQ babyback pork ribs and chicken with fresh baked apple pie sounds good!  Oh, and for the record, National Clown Week was first proclaimed by President Richard Nixon. What? Just thought you should know… You can get tid-bits like this if you visit the National Clown Week website, which will answer questions like ‘What is  a Clown?’ (No, I’m not making this up…) and coulrophobia (fear of clowns … Look, I said I’m not making this up!).

And any recommendations for good Phoenix hotels if you’re visiting Rawhide? The Rawhide site doesn’t have any suggestions, but the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau does have some good places to stay listed.
