Flying Temple TX Truck, Zeke the Elusive Cat & LA Cupcakes

So you look for some nice motels in Temple TX, and you book a room on the 2nd floor, which is any regular on-the-road traveler will tell you, is the safest place to be - away from the ground floor where all sorts of nasty things tend to happen, and not too high, in case you need to get out in an emergency.

So, the second floor at the Residence Inn on General Bruce Drive in Temple, TX should be just fine. Right? It is, if you can ignore a flying 18-wheeler which crashes theourgh the wall and into your room. 50-year old Gustavo Rodriguez was trucking auto parts, heading north on I-35 when the truck veered off the interstate, traveled through a parking lot, hit an embankment and then flew a distance of more than 100 feet at an altitude of 15-20 feet into the air before crashing into two rooms on the first floor and one on the second floor of the motel.

Even more astonishing - Nobody was seriously hurt. Rodriguez had to be cut out of the truck by rescue crews.

Meanwhile, there’s a cat named Zeke who’s been on the lam in Georgia since March 1, and even a famed $700 per-day pet detective hasn’t been able to nab the bengal tabby-mix cat. The cat’s owner, Candess Wildenradt,  and her boyfriend, Eric Driggs, have been staying at motels in Brunswick GA for close in on 2 weeks now, and they’re running out of time and money.

They asked Cats Angels Inc. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a Fernandina Beach-based nonprofit, for help. That led the couple to contact Carl Washington, a $700 per day pet detective whose work has been documented on CNN and Fox News. Apparently he saw the cat, but hasn’t been able to take it into custody.

And the 2nd LA Cupcake Challenge is all set for a blowout bakefest on March 29th at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel (1755 N. Highland Ave, Hollywood CA 90028; (310) 709-3969) . $40 tickets on Sunday (1pm-4pm) and you get samplings of the best cupcakes in LA, free coffee and Nestle Nesquik falvored milk.
