I didn’t know that Maine motels were more family-friendly than even hotels in 48 other states (all except Florida). That’s because the Bar Harbor Motel in Bar Harbor, Maine was ranked third in the list of family-friendly hotels by TripAdvisor, the user review site.

All except the Bar Harbor Motel amongst the top 5 hotels in the list were from Florida. The Bar Harbor came in third among the top 10 family-friendly hotels in the United States.

And here’s the kicker - The motel offers rates from $69 onwards. I suppose the cheap rates are part of the family friendly attraction, but even so, it really takes the pain out of your Maine vacations, so to speak. I mean, a roadtrip to Maine with a stay in a $69 per night motel sounds so much more doable than a $2000+ splurge for a trip to Hawaii.

Another aspect which adds to the ‘family’ touch is the fact that the Bar Harbor Motel is not a big corporate or part of any chain. It’s a single, family-owned motel, and has been owned by Dick Collier for 19 years now.

When the owner has this kind of sentiment and pride invested in the motel, it’s not all about dollars and cents. It’s more about better service and facilities, and making sure guests are well taken care of and comfortable.

The motel is also a scheduled stop for the Island Explorer, with 2 trails that lead directly in to Acadia National Park, and also offers a swimming pool and a playground. They also offer bicycle and kayak storage facilities.

They provide complimentary coffee, tea or hot chocolate in our lobby from 6:00am - 11:00pm everyday. You got wireless internet, and guest laundry including coin operated washers and dryers. The guest rooms are all air-conditioned, with remote controlled color TV with HBO premium channels, clock radio, small refrigerator, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, screened opening windows and free wireless internet access.
