San Diego Tops Hotwire Summer Road Trip Destinations

Sunny San Diego has come out tops in Hotwire’s 2009 listing of the ‘Top 10 Summer Road Trip Destinations.’ The list showcases the most highly-sought summer destinations with the highest percentage of hotel transactions coming from nearby locales.

La Jolla, CA

In a press statement, Clem Bason, President of the Hotwire Group, said that “Consumers realize that they don’t have to travel around the world to have a fun vacation. With low gas prices and great hotel deals, consumers have the opportunity to explore their local region and have a great vacation without breaking their budget.”

Using Hotwire, you can get rooms in San Diego for as little as $83/night - That’s a 4-star hotel in the Gaslamp District, which would normally cost you anywhere between $170 to $250. Even the San Diego motels would be hard-pressed to offer rooms at $83/night.

Hotwire works closely with brand-name hotels in top destinations to help fill unsold rooms, so customers get them at prices lower than any other travel site.

And Hotwire’s visitors and users are apparently more interested in the San Diego beaches than the historic Liberty Bell and Independence Hall in Philadelphia, where the Constitution and Declaration of Indpendence were signed. Philadelphia came in second on Hotwire’s list, followed by Houston, San Francisco, Dallas, Los Angeles, Boston, Phoenix, Saint Louis and Washington DC.
